Inspecting the Optical Finish    [Back]

The optical finish should be mirror smooth and have no visible scratches, digs, or pits, over an area slightly larger that the core.  Good polishing practice should provide such a surface.  However connectors that have been mated to connectors with dirt and contamination, can be damaged in the field.
